suggest that you start with sketchup - photomatch. There is a tutorial on the sketchup site. This gets the view of the model very closely matching the photo, and then, after rendering (Make sure you get the sun coming from the correct direction and if required use an appropriate 'environment' to get glass reflections), copy the render into the photo using PS. You can then make final adjustments to get it to match exactly in PS and trim away any parts of the model that are not needed.

That how this one was done http://www.asgvis.com/index.php?opti...12516#msg12516
The model is the bit on top of the garage roof!

    Good Luck

You can also set the photograph as a watermark (if you're using version 6) so you can position your model to sit in the correct spot. Make the watermark an overlay locking the aspect ratio and adjust your view accordingly.

Thanks to your both. It seems that photomatch can do the job. Cource if I add a watermark - Sketchup crashes

Re: Best way to render a model into an existing context

I have now tried (a lot of tries) to render an image, using Match Photo.

Inside Sketchup it looks fine, but when rendered and exported to PS, the model seems a bit to large. I have scaled the photo and render to 800x600.

          Can you help ?

Hmm if I just use File>Export 2d then the image is in the right size.

I usually save the rendered image, then pull it in to PS on a new layer above the existing photograph. After adjusting layer transparency so you can see how it lines up, I adjustment the position and size to get an exact(well, very close) match.
(I set the output in vray to the same pixel size as the photo to be matched, or re-size the photo to match the output from vray)

                Hi David.
So there is no workaround to avoid the scaling thing in PS ? - seems not.

                Thanks

I think you are correct. But then I find that the distortion in my own camera lens makes the photomatch only a close match and not an exact one. However, unless you know where to look, most of the time the client can't spot the 'join'in the finished montage!!

                  Good Luck

You are right. Its not a problem related to customers (this is atually for a customer).

One can line up the match perfectly in Sketchup, so I was just a bit surprised that there were this problem and I hoped I was doing something wrong, and could spare some work in PS
