  • Distributed render - Router problem

    Hi everyone.

I'm trying to connect to a render slave that is behind a router, but I can't seem to figure out which port to forward to the router in order to be able to connect to it from a remote location.

I bet one of you guys know the port?

you shouldn't have to worry about ports within the router/ network connections, since there's no way to configure that through vray any way. Just make sure that you're firewall has access to the V-Ray Spawner, which should be as simple as giving the program access to incoming requests (this can be done through you're security software's settings).

Re: Distributed render - Router problem

Thanks alot for the quick reply

The problem is that I'm trying to connect to the render slave over the internet - and the slave is behind a router - so I figure that I need to forward the Vray port to the router so when i connect to the router via the internet it sends the traffic to the correct ip address within the local network.... does this make sense?

Anyway - I have turned of the firewall and antivirus on the render slave, so this shouldn't be a problem.

When I setup the distributed render in Vray settings, what IP address should i try to connect to? The router IP or the computer behind the routers local IP?

Hmmmmmm, hope at least some of this makes sense :

Okay...I get what you're trying to do now. I'll try to track down what port that might be sent through, so that you can unblock it through the router. You should still want to use the IP for the computer, not the router, as the IP of the router will have no idea what to do with that information(ie there are no instructions for it to send the info to the computer you're actually trying to connect to). To be honest, I've never heard of anyone trying to us DR over internet connections...its all been within a central LAN. Unless you've got lightning fast internet on both ends, it might wind up being bogged down by band with, as DR will uses a whole lot of it.
