I am trying to create a stainless steel wire mesh / expanded metal material in sketch up to render in vray. i wasn't really sure how to even begin creating a material that is about 50% open and 50% metal that will reflect light like stainless steel and also allow light to pass through it and create the corresponding shadow behind it. I have been trying to use the Transparency Mapping tutorial in the V-Ray Sketch Up Manual, but i have not had any success to date. As a starting point i have been using a jpg i created by exporting an image of the sketch up "fencing Diamond Mesh" (see attachment).
I have followed all of the steps in the tutorial, but i have had no luck. If anyone can help me create this effect with this method or any other, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks.
