  • Toonline rendering for Sketchup V-ray

Does anyone know how to render toonline renders using Vray for Sketchup?

If it is not at all possible at this stage, could anyone tell me if ASGVIS is working on it at all? And if so, When would it be coming?

    Many thanks.

I don't think it's supported, and unsure if they plans to do so. But, you can however fake cell/toon shading with the right settings in a visopt. This is about as close as I could come after 30 minutes of fiddling around with it:

        Thanks kc.rkitek,

Would you mind sharing that particular setting you have that created the render you have shown here?

I guess the availability of such Fuction in V-ray Sketchup is very useful, as clients usually feel more comfortable seeing something less realistic rather than photo-real.

Not a problem... I've uploaded a zip file to rapidshare with my SU file, vismats, visopt, and the 640x480 test render using IM/LC. It's here:

          http://rapidshare.com/files/97770584...gTest.zip.html

The vismats need work to get them more "toony" looking...they are just not there yet, and I don't have anymore time to invest in developing them. You'll find the diffuse setting to be inverted fresnel; It's inverted so that what you see in the texture editor is what you get. To change the color or use a bitmap, adjust the refract color under diffuse.

          Best of luck- kc

One more thing...if you can't get Vray and/or the vismat to do exactly how you want, you can alway add a little by doing some post work. Here's a composite I just did real quick... I just took my render and added a layer in PS.

The addition is a SU export of monochrome face style with all white removed then scaled to match the render. For info on removing all white, google "mac's remove white plugin"...it's free. By the way, if you use CS3, you'll need to also get MSVCR10.dll to get the plugin to work...just put it in the same directory as the PS executable. Anyway, I think this is a little closer to a toon look.

One more quick composite using the previous method, plus the cutout filter in PS:
