  • How to convert fron *.mat to *.vismat

Is it a way to convert materials without having 3D max? I only have Sketch Up, so if you know (and tell me ^_^) there is a program that allows to perform that convertion I`ll be really granted.
There are a lot of materials for Rhino and 3D max, but so few for Sketch Up!
    Thanx for your help!!!!!!!!! ;D

If you have a vismat that was made in Rhino, then it should work in Sketchup.

As far as converting materials that were made with 3dsMax, you will need 3 things...3dsMax, V-Ray for Max, and out visMat Converter. The trials of both Max and vfMax will do, so you don't have to buy them and the converter can be found in the download section.

the converter utility really only converts basic settings. 3D Studio Max materials are not really portable from one app to another. Even though you can use V-Ray in 3D Studio Max, it doesn't use the same material format that we use, nor is there a way to directly convert it, because AutoDesk doesn't have any information or any sdk's available that will allow you to extract information from .mat files. (If I'm mistaken, please let me know so we can make a better converter). You're usually better off just making the material from scratch. Learn how the material system works, and you'll be able to make the same materials that are in Max, and more!
