    Re: Water Caustics

how can u get your sphere so smooth.... I can't figure it out. When I use vray sphere I see segments and when I make my own sphere the circles count like 200 segments which make it heavy to load,

      Re: Water Caustics

You can set the number of segments on the circles before you revolve them into a sphere. See the Entity Info window with the circle selected.

yeah I know thomas.... but I'm talking about the V-ray Sphere, which 40th used for his testscene. It looks smooth and when I make one it doesn't look smooth

Yea, the V-ray sphere isn't smooth. Which is why you have to make your own.

            No problem.
I'm exited to finally be able to produce this realistic affect. Can't wait to use it in my project.

Yeah I'm excited 2. When you open 40th model and u click on his sphere and look in the entity info you'll see it's named V-ray Sphere, so I assume it is an V-ray sphere. Can u answer this 40th?.

              cheers

It's an "V-Ray Omni Light". And that's also the component name that you'll see in the entity info. That omni Light produces the water caustics.

                    Oh, sorry. ;D
Yes it's vray sphere. I smoothed it with SU's Soften/Smooth edges.

Nothing changed but the walls and floor diffuse color.

hey I tried some caustics at another scene I got and what I don't get is the next thing:

how can u set your the multiplier of your omni light so high (1000) and still not over expose the scene. I checked the settings of the physical camera and the settings are normal.
And next question is, do you need to set it that highto get caustics?

You need to disable "affect diffuse" in the light edit menu. This way the light will affect the specular, which is what wee need in this case.

You can set it as high as you want, but the higher you go, the intenser caustic will be.
