Re: Render with 2 or more pc

To use distributed rendering ( using multiple computers to render a single frame ) you need 2 machines that are connected to each other over a local area network ( LAN ). I can't really help you with the details of setting up a LAN but there are plenty of web-sites that explain home networking. I'll assume you have that part setup.

First you need to make sure that both machines have the DRSpawner installed. To install the DRSpawner on another machine you just need to run our installer and choose the "Custom" install-type and then make sure that the option for the DRSpawner is selected before installing. You should not need Sketchup on the other machine to install the DRSpawner. After you have installed the DRSpawner you will want to launch it. There is a shortcut on your start menu if you go to All Programs - ASGvis - Launch DRSpawner.

On the machine that is running Sketchup you will go to our Options - System tab. On the right-hand side you will see a checkbox to enable Distributed Rendering. After you check it you will need to tell VfS which machines you want to use as render nodes. Click the "Settings" button - this dialog lets you add the other computers either by computer name or by ip. After you have entered a computer name or IP you can check to see if it is a valid entry by hitting the "Resolve Servers" button. If the "IP address" column shows an ip after clicking "Resolve Servers" then you have entered a valid computer name or ip.

At this point, if everything is setup properly, you should be able to render and see additional buckets with the name of the machine that is working on them written in there. For example if you two desktops, one named "Joe" and one named "Devin" you should see buckets with "Joe" or "Devin" indicating which machine is working on which bucket. If you don't see any extra buckets then double-check that the computer name or IP address you entered is correct. You will also want to make sure that you do not have a firewall blocking Sketchup or the DRSpawner. I believe that V-Ray for SketchUp 1.0 used port 20204 or 20205 to communicate for DR. Our service release candidate communicates on port 20212. Make sure those ports are open if you have a firewall.

As for the other option in the Options- System tab - by default "Asset collection" is turned on. This is a way to handle resources (like bitmaps ) across the network. VfS packages up bitmaps and other scene data and will send it to each render node (each machine running the DRSpawner )for you if you have "Send to each node" selected. You will probably want to just leave this option the way it is for now. If you have "Send to shared folder" selected you need to choose a folder, which should be accessible to all machines, that will receive the data. This might speed up the initial cost of starting a DR render since you will only be moving data to one location instead of to each machine. For a lot of scenes this is not a noticeable savings and introduces problems if some of your machines can not access that folder for whatever reason.

It should be in the installer, so if you've got that then use it. If not, download another one from the download section. Its important that you run the installer on the computer that is going to run the spawner as this "lays the groundwork" for running the spawner successfully. Make sure you're running the same version of the spawner as well.
