Its pretty tough to make those default shadows blurry because they are from an infinite directional light source ( either the Sun system if you are using the physical sky, or just an infinite direct light otherwise ).
Generally you will want to use an area light to get nice soft shadows. I would suggest using a rectangle light for that.

Surely the sketchup shadow is from the sun. In vray, use the physical camera and the sun. Set the sun size multiplier to about 3 - result, soft shadows. Works for building size models - wouldn't work for something small (just like the sun!)
