  • Different Displacements

    Hi!
I have a doubt( in fact, i have alot of them) how to set different displaments to a different materials?? i mean if i have a stone wall and a grass plane...the displacemets settings must be totally different becouse the materials needs different highs and all that displacement stuff.....right?? I hope to be clear enough :

    Re: Different Displacements

Well, those should be completely different materials, so if you specify different texture multipliers for the displacement maps, then you should be fine. Am I missing what you're looking for??

Nope , you got the idea.I didn't know how to say what i wanted to know,i was confuse about the displacement settings(the ones in the main menu)The right question should be: with the defaul displacement settings you get an "x" high , right??is the same high apply to all the materials with the displacement check on in the material editor ??if so , how to set different highs to them??yeah,i think this is the good one.

        Re: Different Displacements

There are two places which will control the final amount of the displacement affect...First is the Amount value in the Displacement rollout (this controls all of the displaced objects) and the second is the texture Multiplier in the texture editor (which allows for control of individual materials). Basically multiply the Amount and the texture Multiplier to get the final amount of the affect. By default the Amount value is set at 1, which means that the number you set for the texture multiplier will be the end result. I don't see a real need to change this, as it allows for a more direct way of controlling the amount of the affect. Remember that the result is expressed in scene units...how SU actually controls those I'm not very clear on.

damien, thanks for that suggestion in applying multiplier to the displacement map. i missed that one. i jsut hope that it was in the manual. anyway i did a quick test. and here it is.
          1st cube multiplier of 1, 2nd @2, 3rd@3 and 4th @5

It should be in there, but I'm not sure how clear it really wound up being.

Thanks for the response and...yes , it was a multiplier issue, when i asked for the displacement heights for some reason i didn't see the displacement instructions in the manual but guess what, there THEY ARE , i reviewed the manual and there says how to get different displacement heights....i'm so ashamed :-[, i'll be more carefull with the manual the next time i have a doubt ...damn!!
