  • Merge renders in to one

    Hello,

Is it possible to make 2 renders using the same viewpoint... and than merge the renders using PS CS3.

If so do I need to use VFB channels.. for the lights maby.

    regards,

Are you just talking about some compositing stuff, or you want to see if you can get a render done in half the time via 2 different machines(w/o DR)?

For the first, you'll just have to manage the alpha channels when you're adding/removing objects so that you can easily put the two renders together. An easier way would be to use Object IDs or MatIDs, but we don't have any of those at the moment.

If you're trying to do the second thing (pull 2 renders together), then there would be two possible ways to go about it. The first way would be to render one image normally, and another backwards, stopping both at the halfway mark. You could then bring those in pretty easily in ps to make a full render. To make the render proceed backwards, choose Reverse Sequence in the system rollout.

The other way would be to do 2 progressive renders, let them proceed to a fairly respectable noise level, then "merge" them together via an Average filter (in layers).

where can i find this "reverse sequence" option???... can I use this for example if I had a problem when my animation render is in it's final seconds???

I had a problem like this... I was rendering an animation and my computer failed when it was finishing... just 2 seconds (60 frames) before it was over and I had to present my work unfinished... is there a way to solve this???

I hope you guys got the idea :-\

No this is on a per frame basis. For animations you are kinda up a creek, because there is no direct way to access a given frame (thanks to SU's simplified, yet completely unpractical interface). About the only thing you could do is add a page that is exactly in the original path and almost at the end. Delete the previous frames and start the render from there. Maybe a SU guru has a better suggestion, but that is all I have at the moment.
