  • 64 bit Vray version?

    Hi Asgvis team,

I wanted to ask if a 64 bit version of VfSU is planned for the near future.

And a question at the side: any progress on the RC?

    Cheers,
    Biebel

    Re: 64 bit Vray version?

There needs to be a SU 64 bit version first. I don't know if thats happening, but I would be a little surprised if it was. Vfsu will still work on 64 bit, but because vray isn't its own standalone application, we require that the host application be 64 bit. After that though, I don't believe that there are any major barriers for us adding 64 bit support. I don't think it will be as simple as a recompile, but I don't think its going to be that much more complicated either.

    RC2 was released yesterday.

      Thanks dalomar for the answer.

      RC2 released yesterday? Cool

About 64bit: let's hope SU will make it being a 64 bit application. It would sure make modeling high poly scenes less of a hassle.
I don't know if you're familiar with Indigo (unbiased render engine), but the SU exporter supports a 64 bit version of Indigo which I must say works more smooth than the 32 bit one.
That's the reason I asked as I can imagine Vray could profit from being 64 bit as well.

There's no doubt that Vray could benefit from being 64 bit, but since we aren't a stand alone (as I believe indigo is) we have to work with what SU gives us.

I'm not sure what the plans are for SU and 64 bit. Its not something that I really think they'd focus on, but we'll see.

          Thank you again.

Indigo itself is a standalone but the 'Skindigo' plugin for SU works directly from SU.
I do think though that the plugin is written outside the SDK as a pure ruby (with web panels).
The general workflow is similar: you open panels, do your settings, push the render button and a render view will open...
