  • VfSU RC2 - New version - DR Problem

    Hello to everyone,

    First post in the Forum.

I installed the new version (RC2) and test rendered an existing sketchup model. Vray settings are exact default except set it for distributed rendering with 4 slave machines....

(Small bathroom model, typical skechup top view, no ceiling, four side walls of 150 mm and a few interior components, shower, sinks, toilet etc.)

Rendered the model and it rendered alright with all four machines...
    BUT
with straight edges not aligned at different areas.. like wall edges should have been in the straight line.. are not in straight edge/line...kind of zig zag...it's all over model in different areas.. after few more trials I gathered that zig-zag areas are from the packets of slave machines. Tried again with just one slave, same result, packet from slave rendered again zig-zag edge/lines.

Rendered the same model on a single machine then it rendered fine with straight Wall lines, the way it should have been.

Did not face this problem with VfSu version 1 and RC1.. maybe something new in this version I need to find out....

Would appreciate any response... Would have liked to post images but do not know how to.

Apart from this it seems that many problems of RC1 are resolved and this release feels more stable.. from trials of couple of days.

Thanks a lot to the forum, I have learned a lot from many people.

Re: VfSU RC2 - New version - DR Problem

Please make sure that you are running the same DR spawner on each computer (via the installer, not copy and paste). If thats already the case, or that doesn't clear up the issue please fill out a support ticket so that it can be added to the bug tracker

Re: VfSU RC2 - New version - DR Problem

      Thanks for quick response...

All four machines are installed properly via "Install" no copy paste... In fact again tried the same model with RC1, it rendered fine with all machines together...

I am using a demo version.. will I be allowed to use the "support ticke / bug" report method?

Really appreciate your help. Thanks again.

Re: VfSU RC2 - New version - DR Problem

I think there's a version issue with the DR Spawner. Sometimes the installer doesn't replace files when it should (can be quite frustrating).

On your slave machines, uninstall V-Ray for SketchUp, and then try going to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ASGvis\DRSpawner" ("C:\ProgramData\ASGvis\DRSpawner" in Vista), and see if there is still a file called DRSpawner.exe. If there is, it may be the older version from the RC1 release, it may not have been replaced by the latest version that comes with the RC2 release.

Delete the entire "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ASGvis\DRSpawner" folder (or "C:\ProgramData\ASGvis\DRSpawner" in Vista). Then reinstall V-Ray for SketchUp again. Now you can be sure without a shadow of a doubt that we have the correct version of the DR Spawner installed on the slave machines.

Also, to answer your other question, we welcome everyone to submit bugs through our bug tracking software, not just users, but folks that are just trying out the demo too. The more feedback we get, the better the product will become!

Re: VfSU RC2 - New version - DR Problem

          - I am also experiencing this issue and have submitted an offical trouble ticket but saw the steps in this thread decided to give it a shot.

The process of uninstalling, manually clearing all asgvis folders, and then reinstalling VfSU Drspawner appears to not result in any change, the zig-zag bucket alignment bug still persists.

We are using VfSU RC2 with the latest version of SU on Vista 64, the DR slaves are all XP64bit machines installed with only the DRSpawner section of VfSU RC2.

          Any other ideas?

          Thanks,
          Philip
