  • Is my current laptop powerful enough for V-ray or should I invest in a desktop?

I currently have a laptop which I am running both sketchup and Vray from. Renderings are taking a long time and they dont produce good quality images. I am thinking of buying a desktop to replace my laptop but am unsure if it will make a big difference.

    My current laptop specs:
    Lenovo Thinkpad
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20 GHz
    3054 MB of RAM
Video Card: Quadro FX 570M with 256 MB dedicated memory

    Potential Desktop Specs
    Quad 4
    4 Gigs of RAM
Not sure what video card I should buy?

Is it possible to get high end renderings with my current laptop? THe images seem to look bad but I know that could be due to my settings. Please help.

    west,
i think you can create great renderings in your laptop,
but IMHO, a quad desktop with a good v-card would be amazing.

i myself is planning on upgrading on quaddies..

Don't jump on quad right now, wait couple of months, the price will fall down,
      you'll see..

I don't think you should have a problem with the laptop at all (thats just a little bit better than the laptop I'm currently using). Obviously upgrading to a quad core will make things go faster, but I think the laptop should do you well for a while. So I don't think there's a problem with sticking with it. New toys are always fun though ;D

New toys are fun. I've decided to stick with my laptop and wait a little longer. Thanks guys.
