  • Displacement is driving me nuts...

I am really struggling with displacement and I would love some help. My rendering shows my material but no displacement and I can't figure out why. When I add my greyscale image and set my multiplyer to 1, press my update button, I can see displacement. But when I render.....it just shows my image with no displacement. I will tell you what I did step by step.

Applied texture to object in SU
    Linked material to V-ray
Under maps I checked displacement and pressed M
Selected Bitmap in rollout and applied a grey scale version of the image
updated material to see what it looked like and saw displacement
    Rendered.....no displacement.

I would be greatfull for some imput. Thank you.

Oh yeah.....my greyscale image was done by desaturating my original in photoshop. I'm not sure if this is correct?

I tried applying the material in SU and linking it to vray and I tried applying the material directly into v-ray.....if you know what a mean.

the surface that you want to displace you need to make it grroup in skp, and then render, hope it helps.

            Hello.

I did have the same problems before with displacements then I asked this forum for some guidelines. I followed it and it worked. Here it is:

            1. Create model or plane/surface
            2. Apply image texture on surface/model
            3. SCALE in SketchUp image texture on surface/model (this is important)
            4. Group model
            5. VRay material editor > material link
            6. Set material settings in VRay (Diffuse, reflections, etc...)
            7. Apply displacement map in the Diffuse > maps tab
            8. VRay options editor > load options > displacement (set to 2, 500, 1)
            9. Render

            Hope this helps!
