  • Just to say 'hi'

    Hello, Vray users!

I've just today bought Vray (sent the lic file minutes ago), and I just wanted to say how I delighted I am to have Vray in my toolbox!

I've seen some pretty awesome stuff here - hope to produce some myself in a while!

    Regards,

    Stinkie

Edit: btw, doesn't Asgvis have automated response system? Ooooh, seems I found the first thing to complain about!

He he , and don' forget to read the forum. The 'search' function is really handy to find things.
Also checking the gallery section is a good resource, as people tend to share their workflows and possible workarounds...

        Cheers mate,

          Hello, B!

Yeah, I've been doing that. There's quite a lot of good info around! Might take me a while to take it all up! ;D

The stuff over at spot3d.com looks interesting too.

            Welcome Stinkie!

We do have an automated license system, but the offline activation is a manual process. (so far at least)

Yes, I've noticed. ;D Got the license pretty swiftly, though. Good, friendly service. Which obviously is cool.

Nice app, btw. Bit buggy, but nice nonetheless.

                  Re: Just to say 'hi'

Thanks Nomer. May take some time. V-Ray's more complex than any of the other rendering apps I use, though I must add the vismats and visopts help alot. I must say I'm having a good time getting to know the app, too.

I'm pleasantly surprised by V-Ray's speed/ quality ratio! I won't be using it for "final images", that I'll still be using Maxwell for (because of the extreme control over lighting it offers), but I can definetely think of quite a few situations in which V-Ray will come in very handy!

If you'll excuse me now, I have to go search the forum for a way to make my shadows show up.

                  Y'all have a nice day.

                    Re: Just to say 'hi'

Let's help our stinking friend out with his sun/shadows .

As Dalomar stated in an earlier post:

And off course GI need to be checked in the indirect illumination panel.

                    Cheers matey!

                      Re: Just to say 'hi'

Shouldn't you have "shadows checked under "Global Switches" and in the, err, sky settings thingy too?

                      Been doing some reading.

                        Re: Just to say 'hi'

                        Oh yes, that too.

                        By the way,
Go to the download section and try to find madoEXT.visopt file (I think it is on page 2 of the render settings downloads).
It is a pretty decent visopt file that already has the sky/shadow things turned on.
Works on many interiors(not all) as well.

I wouldn't use the presets from the folder that comes with the software to start with, as a lot of things need to be changed prior to rendering (physical sky, sun, shadows, etc...)

                          Re: Just to say 'hi'

                          Waaaaaaaay ahead of you, mate!

Yes, I've noticed the visopts that come with V-Ray need tweaking. The physical and such don't give me much trouble (anymore ). But the other settings!

I think it's fair to say V-Ray is somewhat more complex than Maxwell and Indigo. lol. That said, at least some things are slowly (very slowly lol) starting to make sense to me, which is kinda nice.

The last couple of days, I've been going through the manual. Next week, I'm gonna start doing some of the tuts I found on this site. I don't expect to be an expert by the end of next week, but I'm hoping at least some things'll stick.

In any case, I'm not in a hurry. If there's anything I know by now, it's that these things take time. At least if you have an old spunge for a brain, like I do. ;D

And now for some more forum searching!
