  • Z-depth

I'm trying to get a depth map, but I'm not succeeding. I tried setting a near and a far plane in Maxwell Studio and the using the corresponding values in Vray (hope you know what I mean), but that didn't work.

So ... how do you people do it? Eh? Well? Huh?

      Re: Z-depth

In VFB enable Z-dept then render your image --> save it --> open the render in photoshop ->
then place the Z-dept image on top of the normal render (in a new layer) --> go to channels --> copy one of the channels (now you have your z-dept Channel) --> (go back to your layers) delete the Z-dept layer that you put on top of your render --> go to blur --> select lens blur --> and select the Z-dept channel.

      thats it

lol. Thanks for that explanation. Unfortunately, that's the part of the process I'm familiar with. lol. What I do NOT know, is which values to put in the VFB ("z-depth black" etc).

But ... toch bedankt ('"thanks anyway")! ;D

You use the default settings? Really? I gotta try that then. Come to think of it, I think I already have. So far, all I ended up with, was either a completely black Z-depth render or one that closely resembles an alpha one.

                Re: Z-depth

Are you lot working in imperial or metric? I think the number to use in the VFB is in feet only, even if your scene is in any other unit.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

                  It should be scene units.
