  • Light bends thru glass??

    hi all,
i'm not sure what's happening here...
My sketchup glass seems to 'bend'and appears to curve thru the glass.
    Any ideas why? ???

    thanks in advance

    Re: Light bends thru glass??

That is due to refraction. You have a single flat plane for that glass, right? Remove the refraction layer and you should be fine. When using refraction you have to have an object with an thickness.

Btw: this section of the forum is for posting tutorials, not asking questions. This should have been posted in the general section. It's advised that you read the pinned threads in each forum which describes the forum rules.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Duly noted and apologies. Guess i was in a hurry !

The glass is Sketchup Glass not Vray glass so there's no refraction layer connected to it.

Single sheet of Skup glass too with about 80% opacity

This looks to me like a reflection. Are you sure there isn't a great big round thing being reflected!

          Re: Light bends thru glass??

          hehe NOPE. ;D

unless my moniter is reflected my own head somehow into the model :

The REAR SIDE of the glass is also SKUP glass so no need to Reverse Faces .

i'll work it out.. and when i do, i'll post it

Its a falloff (fresnel) issue. I came across this years back, but haven't seen it since. I tried digging around, but couldn't find that specific post. I'll try to take a closer look at it a little later.

Ah, the image didn't load when I replied initially. I was wrong, ignore me.

                  Re: Light bends thru glass??

                  ok I fixed it! How?

i just put a new pane of glass in there and voila! - all good. Must be a Glass Gremlin hidden in Vray/SKUP

oh wait.. now it's happening to the Ground Floor Glass >

                    Re: Light bends thru glass??

the problem comes from the backfaces... the reflection of this faces, creates some kind of mirror face since the interior, this reflects the light creating an specular result... and the calculation of those light results in rounded reflection.

change the material from sketchup trasnparency to clear glass or if u want some kinf of interesanting reflection effect... use the chrome material, adding some of transparency.
