So ive been trying to get sub. and smoothe to work like it has always done for me and I just read on the smustard site that it wont work with the latest version of vray and that is exactly what I am experiencing. Has anyone figured this one out, because that will really stink if I cant use both? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Re: A little upset: Sub. & Smoothe ruby not working with vray?
This should have been cleared up with the release of SR 1.5. I tested a number of ruby plugins that I was able get my hands on and I didn't see any issues with how they ran. I was unable to acquire the Subdivide and Smooth plugin, but considering there were not any issues with the other half a dozen ruby scripts that I ran (several of them modifying geometry) I would say that it will most likely run fine. If that specific ruby script isn't working, then we'll get the script and see what the likely issue is...Test out the latest SR though.Damien Alomar<br />Generally Cool Dude

Im running the latest service release. Im not sure how familiar you are with the script, but in a way it partially works. When model something and then apply sub+smoothe, it does smoother it, but the autoupdate does not work. So I am not able to continue modeling something with Sub+smoothe after I apply it once. So I get crippled and cant do anything. Thanks for any help.

problem number 1.
the problem is the relationship between the dummy and the smoothed object inside the dummy.
usually when you dra line in the dummy, something will happen to the object inside. now nothing is happening. you end up in just smoothin the object but cant modify it.
problem number 2
i notice the crease tool is also not working..

hm.. that's too bad. I've not used Sub and Smooth, but I was planning on buying it. ..now I might put that on hold.
btw folks, it's be nice if you wrote exactly the V-Ray number version you're using. there's been some confusion earlier where people have thought they had the latest, but in reality didn't. And it's also better for people that might come across this thread later and see what versions we where talking about as they won't know what was the current version at the time of posting. Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: A little upset: Sub. & Smoothe ruby not working with vray?
Well S and S seems to be working for me.
I'm certainly no expert in its use (I've just been watching the video tutorials again!)
My auto update is working and so is the crease tool, although I had to force an update - (which the author does warn you about).
My only problem with it is that the 'smoothed' face doesn't render very well - not very smooth at all. I don't know if this is a bug because I'm no expert.
(Oh, and when I apply a material - it doesn't appear in the render - I had to save and re-load the model to get vray to see it - now it renders)

The release notes for SR1.5 does say that some times smooth surfaces renders faceted. Unfortunately, the workaround is to explode and regroup. Which I imagine won't work with SSD? can you post a small screenshot dcauldwell? Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Yep, that worked too. I exploded the model, obviously thereby removing the option to make any further adjustments to it, re-loaded it and it render much smoother. It isn't vey exciting (!), but here it is. The top rdges have had the 'crease' tool applied, hence the sharpness. I had applied a texture to see if it would mask the facetting.
