          Re: Sketchup 7 is out...

Well, beside dynamic components, I got to say that I'm disappointed.

To me it doesn't feel like SU7 and Layout 2. More like Su6.5 and Layout 1. (Layout 1 was a beta IMO).

Damien; does SU7 improve things for you lot? In terms of revealing more info of the model?

                  Re: Sketchup 7 is out...

We haven't had a chance to really check it out, but since V-Ray loads up and operates within SU7 without any changes, you can tell that not enough has changed that would prevent us from working. Some people would say that thats great, but by-in-large its not. None of the issues that we have seam to be dealt with, and from my recent talks with one of the google guys, a number of these are things they are fully aware of.

Since our development team or myself have yet to take an in depth look at SU7 I can't say definitively that there's nothing new or that nothing has changed, but if there's a change in V-Ray, I generally try to let people know. Hopefully, things have changed and we just don't know about them yet.

                      Re: Sketchup 7 is out...

Thanks. Lets hope that Google opens up a bit. Heck, even MS is more open these days. Says something.

Alas, lets get cracking on what we can do. For instance, can the animation feature of dynamic components be leveraged? I tested if object states are saved across scenes, so I'm not sure, but maybe some clever brains can find something that can open up object animation in SU.

                        Re: Sketchup 7 is out...

I've been playing around with Sketchup V7 and Vray 1.05.30 and the dynamic components. It seems that Vray will render a component with material options but if you change a material option for one instance of a dynamic component to say, red, and for another instance of that same dynamic component to say, white, Vray only recognizes the first instance material and applies that to all other instances of that component regardless of what that instance of the dynamic component material is set to in the component options dialog box.....make sense? It would be nice if Vray would recognize a material setting from the component options dialog box.
