  • Realistic vegetation Nightmare

    Hi there guys!!!
..I have a doubt...well, in fact i have too many but in this case is only one that it's driving me nuts. I.ve seen that a few of you have used xfrogs or 3ds o max trees and plants in your renders...so ..HOW is it possible to import them into SketchUp?? all the models that i got are ARCHMODELS , they are in max format so it's necesary to change them to 3ds ...right ??? Well...how to do that properly?? Cuz once i export them as a 3ds in Skp appears only the body and not the leafs..how to attach them ?? In a few words im imported 3ds plnats and tree models are incomplete once they got in the Skp....am i forgetting something ?? Is there a tutorial i haven't seen round there ?? Any help would be really appreciated
    Thanks In advise

unfortunatly you cant use xfrog trees anymore with the new version of Vray, but if u still want to bring them in, i recommend Cinema 4D as Max will not export large enough 3ds files

      Re: Realistic vegetation Nightmare

There is a face limit on the 3ds format, so I don't believe that its an application issue, but rather a format limitation. I can't remember, but I think there's an limit on the faces per objects and within the whole file. The leaves in the xfrog files are likely to be one mesh (although the faces themselves are separate), so C4D might split up disjointed meshes that it knows will be over the face limit.

...there is a limitation in the 3DS format that meshes can only have 65,536 vertices and faces...
Interestingly enough, from a SU page...

Oh noooo,c'on those are bad news....i mean...to have good and realistic 3d vegetation in the renderings it's really important to get STUNNING realism(obviously, without post process)...and now that its not longer possible to import them it´s gonna be hard to achieve such realism...well ,it seems that i am gonna need to learn photoshop so much..tough....to being honest i don't like to use clipmap quite much..they look ..plain ...oh well..Thanks very much 4 your reply, and thanks dalomar for the info about all the importing 3ds stuff

          Cheers
