  • Object Exclusion UI : VRay's answer to Max's 'Reveal Render' feature.. ?

    Damien

    A small query..

The SR1.5 readme mentions under 'coming soon' features, the option to exclude specific objects from rendering ( & I quote; ) "Coming soon: Object Exclusion UI to allow users to pick specific objects to ignore- It is not working correctly at the moment". Now as I understand this is the Vray counterpart to the hugely powerful feature just released in Max 2009 known as 'Reveal Render', wherein you have the option of selecting objects/ regions to either include or exclude from rendering. (Well, NOT a new feature actually, as it existed only in the scanline renderer, & not in the mR, Vue or vRay (GI) flavors, where it has been included only now, in version 2009 of Max. Veritably, a massive and much awaited feature).

The importance of this feature is in 'iterative' rendering workflow; & is due to the fact that one needs to set up an entire scene render only just once in the beginning... thereafter, one just needs to sequentially render and 'tweak' individual objects/regions for perfecting materials & textures under the Reveal Render option (as opposed to making a small change to an object's material/ texture in the scene & then waiting for the entire scene to re-render with lighting calculations being done for ALL objects for EVERY render... a phenomenal time waste !)

My 2 cent query is.. Is the Ignore object UI henceforth planned for VfSU similar to the Reveal Render in Max? & is this planned for the next version release for VRay ( & tentatively by when)? Coz if it is, it'd make VfSU all the more closer to its Max counterpart and make the transition of Max users like myself to the SU + VRay platform more viable.
