  • [error] Failed to edit registry

I'm trying to install the DRSpawner on one of the old spare computers we have. It've worked fine except for on this one. I pops up this message.

When I click OK the installer still continues. The spawner even starts when you execute the file. However, it does not render. It just sits there.

So something must have gone wrong during installation, which I suspect is due to the error I get during install. What I can't work out why this happens. The user I'm logging on to the computer has admin rights.

When I open regedit I also get errors when I try to access anything under HKLM/Software
It appears that this is the only section I have problems with. HKCU, HKCR, HKU and HKCC all appear fine.

Is there somewhere that part of the registry can be denied?

When I try to open HKLM/Software I get a message saying there was an error when opening the key. (Not sure what the exact english error message is as I get it presented in Norwegian.)

I think I might have fixed it. I ran a command to reset the file and registry permissions: http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/re...in-windows-xp/

All the keys under HKLM was missing permissions completely.

If you're not able to modify the registry, then its definitely a permissions issue. Also, be aware that certain user profiles will have different levels of access. In some situations (especially on Vista) being logged in as an admin still won't give you the appropriate privileges and you will have to run something specifically as an admin.
