Is this feature going to be supported in the next release? I have been trying to understand the fake IES lighting effect, but I just can't seem to get the same output that was shown.
to get the Fake IES lights to work you need to apply the image as a diffuse map, usually I make it the glass portion of a recessed light. You also need to use the same image as a transparency map. This will let light pass through the "white" parts of the image. The more transparent the image the less IES effect you'll get, so play around with it. Then of course you need a light source behind the "lens" I find using Inverse Square works well with this.
To make things more interesting you can download or make a more detailed recess light and apply the same principal.
