I have noticed a few exteriors with quite extensive landscaping on here. Does anyone have any tricks for making sketchup run faster. Im looking at about 3 to 5 minutes to place a tree. They are high quality trees, and Ive got them on layers and components it just takes soooo long. Any ideas to speed up the process?

What is the specification of your PC?
One thing i can think about to speed up placement of heavy component, by switching to wireframe view.

I have been working in wireframe, seems to help a little bit. The PC here at the office is a 2.33 duo core with 4gigs of RAM on XP Pro and a 256 ATI card. Anyone know if Rhino is faster at this than SU?

        How about using sketchup's outliner?
Replace all trees with a simpler component like a stick or something, group them together then before you export replace them all back with your trees!
You can make different groups for every type of trees, so it will be easier to identify.
For more on sketchup's outliner and how to use it, well, google it!

Yes, he does nice work. I am photoshoping my images from a eye level view, but for this particular submittal they need several aerial renderings and several eye level perspectives. The eye level ones are a little quicker to reproduce, but the aerial is much more difficult to put entourage in and have it look decent. I hope my images can come out as clean as this guy. Thanks for the inspiration.

i understand the problems of aerial shots, but again u can still leave out the heavy veggies and photoshop the bastards... after purchasing a collection of trees by Dosch called top trees, a collection of tree images from elevated positions, just a thought

                  Re: Landscaping

wooo that is a good site, wish I could buy all that stuff. I didn's see any from an aerial view, well, the submittal has to include a view from 20 to 25' up. So unless I can find some vegitation that is at an angle close to that then Im stuck in SU. Thanks for the advice, I will look somemore at that site. Thanks!

Hmmm, I wish they would show more samples of the trees. That one looks like it may work. Thanks for all your help.
