I didn't see it, no. But it's up on the website somewhere?
I've been working on this cursed competition lately, so not much spare time...

      Dalomar,

I'd be interested in that masking tip.

Its on the page with all of the recorded webinars along with the files.

The basic idea is that instead of a black background material and white foreground material, you have Red, Green, and Blue foreground materials. Then within whatever post app you're working with you can base your mask on the Red, Green, or Blue channel instead of just a grayscale image. There are two things that this helps with...first, its more efficient since you're masking 3 objects at a time instead of one by one...second, any advanced camera effects (DOF and MotionBlur) can be masked extremely accurately since any interpolation between the objects will only affect that given channel.

One last note. The "masking materials" should be set up as an emissive material with its intensity set to 1. That way the mask does not take any shading into account.

          Ah. Nice trick.

          Is MaterialID schedules for VfSU2?

On small scenes with few materials I've also used the Alpha Contribution option in a test. Though in most cases it'd be too much work for it. But it's useful to apply yo a dummy grass texture which you replace in PS.

We'll see about the matID channel, but honestly, I don't find them that worth while. The mask that they create is unantialiased (for a reason), so to really get a proper mask is not that easy. What I'd rather spend time on is having an object list, and for each object it would generate its own grayscale mask. I guess that could be extended to materials as well.

Yea, I've used the RenderID to pick objects - but they are also aliased, so not ideal in every circumstance.

              Object List sounds good.

Nice trick. To disable shading in the mask image i used the diffuse map, from VFB channels.

no emmisive material required, turn off GI, dissable all maps and reflection, and render only diffuse map, i have a visopt set up for it ... renders shouldnt be more than 30 on any resolution
