  • Background Vs Reflection ?Difference?

    Ciao!
    What differences there are between [background] and [reflection]
    in both GI and material (Channel Maps)
    You must excuse the question, seemingly trivial but ....
    I do not understand!

    <edit>
    is a question so silly, is not it?
    But I do not understand, if the materials reflect the GI background, when and how to use the GI reflection?

    Re: Background Vs Reflection ?Difference?

    You use the GI Reflection when you want to your reflection to reflect something other than the GI Background.

    For instance, you want to use the Sky for your GI Background, but you have lots of reflective material which you want to reflect an HDRI enviroment instead.
    Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

      Using them is all the same....map an image to reflection as you would background.

      I explain it like this...there are 2 main things we're setting with our environment; the light and what we see. The light is just one thing, GI, but what we see is broken down into 3 things. Our background is what we see when no geometry is in our way and we can see straight off to infinity. The next thing we see is the reflection of that background within our reflective objects. The last thing we see is the refraction of that background within our refractive objects. By default, we can use just a Background and it will be used for all of these. The reflection and refraction slots are so that we can set those maps to something different than what we use for reflection.

        Thanks, now everything is much clearer ...
        or ... I knew that was so but I was trying to discuss with HDRI map and did not understand (then I understood that the problem was in the map, I had to increase the multiplier! > ) ...

        However, now that everything is much clearer, I repeat that, although it is possible to apply a background in post process it must have set a backgruond a simple picture (photograph)
        In enviroment map should be able to insert images and mapping then "full screen" (rather than cylindrical, spherical, angolar or
        whatever ...)
