  • Vray Crashes SU

Does anyone know a fix for this, when I start to render with VRfSU it will start the renderer get about 5 seconds into it and crash the whole program. Funny though it still runs in the background (in task manager). I have tried removing CGs, purging, new files, render settings, everything I can think of. Anyone have any suggestions, it would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hi, I had a same problem, maybe the same reason... ;D when I startet to use V-Ray SkUp crashed at the middle of the rendering. The cause was that V-Ray cannot handle the non-english characters of my textures!!! that´s all... bye devran

So how did you overcome this, did you just rename all the materials and re-attach them in the model, thats what im trying right now, and nothing seems to work. Thanks for the tip Devran.

Yessssss! Ok, Devran your a genius! I took the entire model down to the deafult material and remapped everything and now its rendering fine. Much better than remodeling the whole thing. I am trying to get some Sketchup modeling standard going in our office so this dosnt happen again. Thanks for the comments!

If there are specific characters or names that are giving you trouble please give us some more info. I thought we got to the bottom of all of the foreign character issues at the beginning of the summer, so if not I'd like to know. Of course if you're using an older build (as I know some of you are) then that isn't nearly as helpful.

            Re: Vray Crashes SU

Dalomar, I can go back to the original model and grab the names of the textures. The interesting thing was it didn’t sound like the same issue as Devran had with foreign characters. I think it was because the other employee who modeled this had materials linked from his desktop, the network, and other various places. So I localized all of them in our project folder on the network. I also renamed them all (i.e: METAL - Standing Seam, CMU - Splitface, etc.).

I am now also in charge or writing Sketchup modeling standards, similar to our AutoCAD standards, since we have so many people that can "model", and I’m the only one who knows how to render, gets a little frustrating fixing countless models when I can model them just as fast. Any unique modeling tips would be great, so I can test them and incorporate them into our standards.

            Thanks!

                Re: Vray Crashes SU

Alright, so now that it dosnt crash the renderer wont even start. I click render wait a minute then it goes right back into the model. I have had this problem in the past but usually when I close SU and reopen it will work, not this time. Any fixes for this problem, kind of a pain I cannot even render now. Thanks!

                  Re: Vray Crashes SU

Best you can do is copy and past the geometry into another model. I've had the render lock out happen as well and it is something that is persistent within the file. There's nothing that can really be done from a user perspective, so moving to a new file is the only way I know to solve it when closing and reopening doesn't work. Sorry.

Thats what I figured, sucks though I have to set up all my scenes and materials and the like. Any quick tips on transferring this sort of data?

Oh Crap, so I did that and it still wont render, which means there is some phyisical geometry not coperating. I have also changed my settings several times and nothing works, opening up other models to check the rendering engine and it works on them. Is this a remodel situation?

                        Re: Vray Crashes SU

I'd copy over object by object and see what works and what doesn't. I can't imagine that you would have to remodel everything, and I certainly wouldn't want you to have to do that. If it does come down to a certain piece of geometry I would find that very interesting and it would help us figure out what the exact cause of this one is. Unfortunately the one file that I have that exhibits this behavior only has one object in it.

The solution I came up with, which is going to kill when we make changes, is to explode everything, purge, then make it one group. Which I hate to do, but since this is a proposal, when we get the project it will be remodeled anyways. So, I think its ok, but now it renders. Once it goes out, I will go back to the original files and see exactly what was causing the problem.

                            Re: Vray Crashes SU

So I am having this problem again. I have remapped all the materials, and have located the two that are causing it to crash. I have a carpet material and a stone material that everytime I add it to the model and click update or render Sketchup will instantly close. If I remove those materials the model renders just fine. I have created these just like I created all the others. Any help would be so gooooood, since this is really really annoying and wasting a lot of time. Thanks!

Try to reapply the bitmaps on the material via V-ray
