  • Should we rename this render engine from vray for sketchup?

Hi all of the fans of vray,

We heard too many time how many fans are compare between vfsu and vfmax! I believe most of us have been go though the revolution of vray for max. And now look at the programe. how stable and how function it is. Even the next version to become real time render.

Because of this. Vray for sketcup using the same name. i know i know i know the render engine is the same BUT I only see the diagram of render option and some of the material diagram are the same. Apart from that. nothing can compare with vray for max. Typically the function/technical/result are so miles away to catch up with vray for max.

Should you guys change the name of this engine to something like vraybasic, babyvray or just born vray..... etc

So people won't get confuse , compare and keep complaining.

Personally, I'm not confused between "VRay for Sketchup" and "VRay for 3DS"

The names you chose (baby, basic, just born...) have a negative meaning...

Besides, the name is already established. From a marketing point of view it's not a good thing.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Esteves, have you even think about vray for 3ds funtion when you hit the problem in vfsu? if you do..there we go.

        yes...the name...hehe...i mean that. >

ThomThom, i agree the name is for marketing point of view. that's why i / we paid for this program since the first version coming. i was so exciting and hurry to get one copy. Then....the nightmare starting...now i had too many models has been setup this way..i can't go back to max. BECAUSE i though it is same as VFMAX. Now i only hope they fix all the bugssssss every single month.....by the way ...i was waiting since one and half year ago..maybe 2 years..don't remember now.

          Pat,

You're obviously coming to VfSU from a completely different angle. From that point of view it is different, but most people are coming from it from no V-Ray experience at all. Yes, there are a number of significant gaps from VfSU to VfMax (proxies being the biggest), but those are not as evident to someone who is completely new to rendering. I guess what I'm getting at is that the VfSU crowd is much much different than the VfMax users.

As to the actual functionality itself for a while it was impossible to have VfSU be the same as VfMax because the V-Ray SDK itself didn't have all of the functionality that was in Max. Only about until about a year and a half has all of the stuff been in there.

The other thing is that SU is not a rendering platform or even a platform that is built for 3rd party applications. Because of this we've had to fight an up hill battle with SU since day one. So I don't know where you go after you click render, but I implore you to knock on Google's door and tell them they should actually do something to make SU easy to develop for.

The name itself isn't changing for a whole load of reasons, of which there are too many to name here. Most of them should be obvious, but the one that I like the most is that when we come out with the next full version of VfSU, there should be minimal gaps between VfSU and VfMax functionality. Since that's you're main basis for the name change, I consider it a mute point.

and u cant compare to 2 as they ,sketchup and 3DS, are very different, im sure some of that difference will appear in the vrays of each version as they can only do as much as the base program will allow, and u as the artist have to make due or move on, dont blame ur tools.
