  • Does video card effect VRAY rendering time?

Today I upgraded my integrated video card to a dedicated one (nvidia 9400gt, 1GB). I noticed a remarkable improvement in navigating models, however the VRAY rendering times remained the same.

Am I correct to assume that the VRAY rendering engine only taps the processor? Do I have something setup up incorrectly?

    Thanks in advance.

    Yup. It uses the CPU.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

you won't get any luck GPU for render engine because most of the render engine is base on CPU calculation and ram to render. On the other hand. Most of the 3D software is base on GPU running. It's good to get a very good graphic card for 3d purpose user especially when you making a complex model with a lot texture.
Also the software in the future is going to base on GPU such as Adobe CS4 package is already use GPU. I am not quite sure the next version of Vray for max is using GPU or CPU because of they can render in real time on screen. I will assume they using GPU, otherwise it won't be that quick to render the result at the same time. Even some of the Video and audio software. they already development to use GPU. So the trend in the future is very important to get a very good graphic card.
