I am competent with Vray for rhino although not an expert by any means. My office wants to try out Vray for sketchup but on the few models I have tried it is SOOOOOO slow to get started. Detailed interior models can take 10 minutes to even start the render. For the longest time I thought it was just locking up but I found that if I leave it on long enough it eventually starts. For a 25 second render it can take up to 10 MINUTES to get started. Right now I havnt even ventured from the default settings. Also, if I import the model into rhino it renders instantly and perfectly. The only problem there is that rhino doesnt have mesh smoothing and it doesnt always bring in the textures right. Just to recap.... Rhino-2 SECONDS to start render, Sketchup 10 MINUTES to start.

Oh wow this really does help. It loads the Frame Buffer instantly JUST LIKE RHINO. I love it Cut render time of this particular scene from about 12 minutes to about 2 minutes.John Harvey
Intern Architect
Digital Design and Fabrication
http://jrharveyarchportfolio.blogspot.com/

Hmmm it seems the command purges my Vray materials such as glass and mirrors. I cannot seem to get those materials back no matter what I do.John Harvey
Intern Architect
Digital Design and Fabrication
http://jrharveyarchportfolio.blogspot.com/

Re: Vray for sketchup really slow to get started compared to rhino.
hello, thank you for that !
i downloaded and put into plugins folder
already the ending made me wonder ... "Remove_CG_mat.rb" is it's name, all other plugins are called something "*.plugin" not "*.rb".
and, it does not load into my plugin menu thing. also not after a reboot.
is it possible, that this is a PC plugin, and not working for Macintosh computer ?
thank youMACbook PRO 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, OSX 10.9.5, WACOM Intuos 5 Touch, Sketchup 2016, vray_adv_20026494_sketchup_2016_osx_x64.dmg

I'm not sure what *.plugin files you refer to. Link? Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: Vray for sketchup really slow to get started compared to rhino.
ahhhh... i am silly. just found out that the correct path for where to put this is: /Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google Sketchup 7/Sketchup/plugins/...*.rb - i was silly enough to open the sketchup package content before and place it into the plugins there. it works now. still playing with it.
it seems to make it faster by a third, but, can it be that it changes the lights of the scenery ???MACbook PRO 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, OSX 10.9.5, WACOM Intuos 5 Touch, Sketchup 2016, vray_adv_20026494_sketchup_2016_osx_x64.dmg
