  • Nice new Forum!

    Very nice layout.

    Re: Nice new Forum!

    Ditto!
I'm very happy about this. I was looking at the forum stats of the old forum last week, and there seemed to have been less activity for some months. And I suspect it correlated with the previous layout change. It'll be interesting to see if the stats changes after this again.

It all now got a much cleaner. Doesn't feel like wandering around in a dark basement labyrinth any more. This feels like a huge greek open forum!

Yes..... but........ why are replies listed in reverse order (maybe changeable under user preferences)?

More worryingly, there appears to be no way to get back to the the VfSU forum board from any of the VfSU forums without going back to the main V-Ray for Rhino and V-Ray for SU forum board and scrolling down. No "back" button was a pain in the last board, but not even having a "VfSU Forums" button now makes navigation horrible.

I don't see the replied in reverse order. So I'd think it's a setting.

Also, towards the top of the page, under the main navigational links, there's a breadcrumb navigation to the forum, when when you're in a sub-section or thread, you can follow it back to any of the parent sections.

Hmm, I didn't change anything and now it's back to "latest topmost" order again... weird.

Yep, I used that for navigating the old forums, but now all the V-Ray plugin forums are bunched together so there appears to be no way to just view the VfSU forum board. Not such a biggie for VfRhino users, but we poor VfSU users now have to scroll down every time just to get an overview of the VfSU forums.

BTW, what gives with our stars and ratings? Your "Hero" rank is well deserved, but why would you be designated "Jr." and me as "Sr." (it it an age thing? lol) and why have I got more stars than you when you've got so many more posts than me? I'm flattered, but this reputation system seems to be a bit broke!

              Re: Nice new Forum!

              Didn't notice that.
Don't think it's ever been used. Everyone's used to be "Newbie" I believe, even Damien . Not sure what the "Hero" is all about, but at the same time I'm also a Jr. (Not an age thing is it?)
Though, I prefer forum reputation scores that relates to people giving "thumbs up" for specific posts other than just number of posts as they carry more meaning. When it's based on number of posts it's merely an indicator of procrastination. ... :

In regards to the main page forum sections, I agree, the collapsible option was a nice feature. Though, recently I found myself keeping the Rhino forum expanded as there'slots of good info there as well. What I do miss is some line of separation between the news/announcements, rhino and SU sections.

btw; has anyone experienced while typing a post on the new forum that the caret suddenly steps back one step?

Not noticed that (yet), but the old forum used to drive me crazy when writing long posts as the whole text window would scroll back to the top completely at random and very frequently. I hope we've seen the back of that bug.

Uuuughhhh.... I just noticed that when you submit a reply the forum software automatically navigates back to the topic list rather than the topic you were replying in. >

                    Re: Nice new Forum!

Glad you guys are liking the new forum better...As to the labeling of people I have no clue how/why it does it and there really doesn't seam to be any logic behind it. I'm not sure that's really of any use anyway, so at the moment I'd just rather have it "removed" to just show the number of posts and if your a moderator or something.

I also missed the collapsable things for the forums, so I'll ask if those can be added back in. I know the forums themselves have the same organization on the back end so it should be possible. There are even more boards that I can see and you guys can't so its doubly annoying for me.

I agree with this. I've seen forums where people's become obsessed about the numbers and "rank". Never seen it serving any good purpose.

I can't seem to login to the main site any more. Says username and/or password is incorrect. We have to re-register?

And where do you download VfSU? (Not the DEMO)

Yeah, it wouldn't let me login to the main site yesterday either, but no problems logging in to the forums.

It is truly a joy to be able to view big images again! ;D
