Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
I take it you're using the originial VfSU where you had to go into the Enviroment Sky Maps and manually click update due to a bug.
If you download the SR1.5 (1.05.30) update then the sun is synced. All material will be synced as well. Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
hm... ok, let try something else; What are you trying to "control"? Sun position? Or are there other things you refer to when you say "control".
Note that, is the sun is around 12-ish, high up on the sky, you might not see the shadows too be very distinct as they'll end up nearly directly below the objects. Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
My problems are basic control:
Any simple object placed a horizontal plane in SKP show a particular orientation/ angle of shadow. But when rendered without moving anything shows a different angle of shadow.
If I change the orientation of shadow in SKP, when rendered the shadows remains unaltered meaning as in above case.
Essence is, whatever I do to my SKP shadow menu, there is no change in render output.
Thanks!

Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
That's very odd. I've only seen that in the original version...
Does it happen on all models?
do you have a sample model you can upload somewhere? Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
Can i add a question to this?
I've been using "print quality studio" to render pretty much everything as it seems to be the best settings that come with vray, however shadows/sun doesn't render, if i load a visopt downloaded from here, there are some good shadows so it's obviously a setting somewhere. The print quality studio settings lead to nice results so i was wondering if it's possible to change it to have shadows too? or would that lead to having to basically change all of the visopt file? thanks in advance

Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
I've never used third-party visops before. Mainly because I don't know what settings they set.
But if you are missing shadows, check what map type your GI Environment is. It must be set to Sky to get V-Ray Sun that match with SU sun. Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
I'm using the latest version of sketchup and vray, thanks mate.
I'm studying architecture and most of my skills are pretty decent, i'm just coming up slightly short in the rendering department at the moment, which if done beautifully, are what really make a portfolio look that more impressive =[

Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
A studio scene wouldn't have the Sun present, so it's not a bug surprise.
As for the Sky, it's meant to be used with the Physical Camera in order to get proper exposure. The light values you deal with is completely different depending on if you use the Physical Camera. You have to be consistent about that. That's another one of the reasons I don't use third-party visop's as they might be intended for a different setup. Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
Oh i see.
I've seen some of your renders thomthom and i must admit that i am extremely impressed and in awe at how good renders can look from sketchup! did you download your settings from a website or do you start from scratch and make your own settings? either one though, is there anywhere i can get those settings from? i know that materials and scene depend on what settings you use, but i'd love nothing more than to play around with my architecture projects with settings similar to the ones you use! thanks mate x

Re: Skp sun Vs Vray sun
I've based mine on VfSU's default settings for Physical Camera. Then changed things as I needed, often doing small test-scenes to test specific things.
Which renders where you interested in seeing the settings for? Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.
