  • HELP, Displacement question

guys, i have a problem placing a displacement map with some materialss. say i have an image of TILES, i apply and rescale the material so that it will have bigger tiles. the problem here is when i apply the displacement map and render the scene, the TILES in the render output are rescaled back to its original size. what did i do wrong?

      Re: HELP, Displacement question

I've never experienced that adding a displacement map changes anything.

What happens if you reposition the textures in SU after you've added the displacement map?

the texture remains the same inside the SU, when i add displacement map and then render it, the output displays the original texture size (does not follow the texture in SU ). what is my problem here? thnks thomthom

You haven't applied the material to a group or component, have you? All material should be on faces only.

yes, i did that already. let's put it this way. Under the vray material window on applying bitmaps, should i change the "u" and "v" when i rescale the texture inside SU?

are there guidelines to follow when editng a .jpg file to make it a bump/displacement map and using it as a material inside SU then render the material with displacement map enabled?

                Re: HELP, Displacement question

This could help, but I'm not sure.....I had problems with bump, the diffuse was correct , but the bump was small. I figure it out that the plane that I wanted to have the material, was flipped. So, try right click over the surface, and hit reverse face!
                Good luck!

No, leave the UV at their default 1.0. Use only SU to position and scale the textures.

                      Re: HELP, Displacement question

I suggest the same, usually; there are a few cases where I have changed the scale within vRay. Just make sure that if you do you change the displacement map or bump map and the diffuse map to all be the same number, unless your textures are different resolutions, which the bump and the texture should be the same, especially for tile work. Hope this helps.
