  • 3d artist magazine

hey guys.... I'm looking for a nice 3d artist magazine to subscribe to, so I can learn a bit more becomming a 3d artist. It doesn't have to be particulary vray, but would be nice. I had a quick look on the internet and I found 3D world. Anyone knows this magazine, and knows if it's a good one?

Yes. It's the best I've found. It actually have interesting and useful information instead of regurgitating the same top 10 tools list other magazines do.

Mind you, yesterday I thought it bought it, but it turned out to the a magazine called 3D Artist. The cover was very much what 3D world usually looks like, and even the articles and content looked to be in the same style. I've neber heard of it before. It looked ok. But as I asid, this was the first time I came across it. But 3D World I can really recommend.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

3D World is great...I don't subscribe as its quite expensive here in the states, but we get it at the office and if I don't get a chance to look at it there I'll almost always look at it when I stop at Barnes & Noble or Borders or something.

Due note that it focuses on many of the main 3d applications and the some of the tools that go with them, so you're talking about Max, Maya, Houdini, Cinema 4D, XSI, Modo, and other tools such as Shake, Nuke, AfterAffects, and stuff like that. SketchUp is going to get next to no coverage. I'd say that V-Ray gets a fair amount of exposure within 3D world, but be prepared for slightly more Mental Ray and some other suggestions from Native App renders and other 3rd party renderers like RenderMan and Brazil.

Yea, Sketchup has rarely been mentioned. But Su7 was mentioned by a small article. The LightUp plugin for SU. And V-Ray for Rhino was mentioned as well once.

Both V-Ray for SketchUp and V-Ray for Rhino have been reviewed in 3D World, with VfR being done more recently. Both reviews were quite favorable which is always nice.

3D Creative magazine is great too. It's a downloadable PDF magazine and the lite version is free.
