  • URGENT HELP NEEDED!

This have never happened to me before and I have never heard of it happening to anyone else, but I am on a tight deadline for a project and I really need some help. I have a scene (a fairly large one) and I went to hit render and all of my settings, materials and render settings, were reset and I was left with practically nothing other than my SU material list and no vray attributes. That has happened before and I do not know why? It completely set back my model, but that is not the biggest issue because I was just going to revert to a version that I saved about 15 minutes before. When doing that I noticed that I cant even get V-ray to show up anymore in any sketchup project. It is not in even in the plugins menu list to activate the toolbar. I checked my SU plugins folder and all the vray files are still there but I cant get any of it to show in SU. Now this is a really huge issue for me...first, obviously because I dont have V-ray showing up for anything (even new projects that have nothing in them). And 2nd I do not want to have to uninstall then reinstall to see if that works, due to the fear of losing all of my settings for my current project...that would set me back days. Is there anyone that may have an idea of what the problem is and think they could help?

    Thank you in advance.

    Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED!

If V-Ray isn't showing up in the plugins menu, then I would assume that its not loading. You don't happen to be using a floating license would you? I ask because in order to prevent V-Ray from loading when SketchUp starts, you can rename the extention of the VRayforSketchUp.rb file. Did you by any chance do this?

Other than that I really don't know what else to suggest other than an uninstall and a reinstall. I've never had this happen myself, nor had anyone report this before. You shouldn't worry about loosing all the settings from your current project because those are saved within the file and wouldn't be affected by V-Ray being uninstalled/reinstalled.

Thanks Dalomar for the help. I think I know what the problem was....I installed the vray toys plugins and I guess I didnt read carefully enough and it made changes that I did not expect, but when I looked closer at the "vray toys" thread, I realized what installing the plugin would do. One thing to note though for other users is that it did completely reset all of my materials and settings...I think? My materials and settings have been reset before in previous projects and I do not know why that happens, but in this case, it happened right after installing the plugins and restarting my scene. Just something to keep in mind, eventhough it may not be the exact reason. But thanks again for your help.

        Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED!

It shouldn't reset the materials or settings.

What it does is help you sync the SU viewport and the V-Ray render.
And then it also lets you prevent V-Ray from autoloading on Sketchup startup, but this is off by default.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Yeah, I am not exactly sure if that is what did it, but it happened right after installing that and then opening my scene....but like I said, my materials have reset on me before and I am not exactly sure if anything like that has been reported before (without considering this plugin)?

            Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED!

Yikes.... I think Steelers05 may have found a bug connected to loading your script Thomas. The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago- my Barcelona Pavilion skp file suddenly lost all it's Vray settings and materials. I had several saved-as versions, so I just used an earlier one, saved out all the vismats and reloaded them into the newer file, but I did panic at first thinking I'd lost all that model's vismats. It didn't occur to me now that it was around the same time as I loaded your scripts... so maybe this is no coincidence. I just thought VRay had just had a flip out, a bit like the losing-bitmap-paths bug which pops up at random.

Yet another reason to "save as" frequently. I usually have 4 or 5 dated versions (sometimes with revision letters) of any large skp file in an archive folder within my project folder. Any more than that and I delete the older ones.
