• Saving V-ray materials to a skp drawing?

Right now i am using V-ray a lot for rendering all my different designs, but when i save these files and start them later all the materials i added to the sketchup materials are gone. Only the sketchup materials are active. So if i start rendering all the materials are back to the sketchup ones.

Is there a way to save the files with the materials. A way to link all the materials to the sketchup materials. I am getting tired of adding all the materials to the same design. (i am getting better at it, by practising a lot!)

Dutch tutorials for Sketchup and V-ray: Proseduction.nl

And although i have some tutorials i still am learning!

It's a known bug. When you modify a V-Ray material make sure you open up the Options window before you save - otherwise you loose all material changes.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

You can save your settings and materials in a SU template file which saves time if you use common materials in your projects i.e. glass, grass, chrome etc.

Just an update on this thread ( as the original link has been deleted - it was an old ASGVIS link)

To save materials with their VISMATs
All you have to do is, in SU, create a template file (my template also has common components, views etc) and in that file create all your commonly used materials, glass, grass, chrome, various shades and glossiness of white (!) etc. and then save the file as a template.
When creating a new model, if you start with this template file, then your favourite materials with their VISMATS are already there.

you can also save out the various materials as skm files to a folder, and then set that folder to be a material library

be aware though, any bitmap textures that are used, aside from the diffuse texture that is shown in the viewport, will not be included in the skm file! So be careful.
