  • Mapping glossiness

    Hi guys,

is there a way to make this label glossy/reflective/metallic? Somehow adding a reflection layer with mask(s) does not seem to help... I read a couple of topics on this forum, tried adding a Fresnel map, and it only screws things up.

Label is on the front, the back is covered with mask which has a "hole" where the label is

On another note, is there a way to make labels such as this DIRECTLY on the bottle? Or I always need to make a copy of the bottle and work with it only for the label?

What if parts of the label are gold? Do I have to make a separate SU object just for the gold?

    Many, many thanks!

    Y.

Reflection map would fit for this.

Doesn't seem to make a difference (maybe I'm doing something wrong? Map section -> Reflection -> m -> Bitmap -> Texture -> load file, uncheck Tile)

Actually the correct term is "Specular Map"

          Re: Mapping glossiness

          Thank you (sort of).

I don't understand though why it has to be this way and not the way I wrote above.

And I could not get anything useful with HDRI (is there a special way to do it?). I put in GI, Background etc. slots and get only garbage.

I am getting upset with vray (no documentation, everything has to be trial and 90% ERROR and that's only frustrating)

Please understand, some of us are coming NOT from Max, but SketchUp, therefore good help/tutorials are essential...........................

And can somebody address my other questions from the original message please.

you can use a lot of the max tutorials and also on the rhino section and any other apps with a vray plugin

                Re: Mapping glossiness

Sorry if I am being dumb, but my demo time keeps ticking and there's no result.

According to the what's been prescribed to me above, it looks like I need to render my packaging stuff in an exterior scene (weird). However, I don't want to see no horizon and no Vray infinite plane and I want a white background. This looks to me like I have to do it in the interior. Contradiction.

Any solutions for this? Why reflection map for a material doesn't work? I don't understand.

BTW - followed your tutorial - If I render "exterior" I don't get a nice HDRI reflection, I get some vague stains of pixels. Ie - no reflection of the kitchen or studio, just some out of focus smudges.

                  Re: Mapping glossiness

actually, I don't even need the label to reflect any "environment", only the light in the "room", just as the cap does.

and this turns out to be impossible?
