  • V-Ray for SketchUp WIP01

    Hello All-

The recent conversation regarding V-Ray for SketchUp has mostly been about our port to Mac OS X. However the major hype should be about a new from the ground up rewrite of V-Ray for SketchUp.

The Work In Progress Build 01 for V-Ray for SketchUp (PC+OSX) is here!

We are exicted to make this announcement and thank you for your interest to become part of the Work In Progress (WIP) team of V-Ray for SketchUp on PC and Mac OS X. Due to the overwhelming number of requests to join our WIP testing we have decided that we are going host one additional round of testing adding a few more folks to the WIP group.

We have a WIP build ready for immediate release. This initial testing period is of great importance. You should agree to the following:

    1. You will be able devote to serious and rigorous testing. Especially between now and September 2nd.
    2. The current version of V-Ray for SketchUp on Mac OS X will only run on SketchUp 7 and Intel based Mac's.
    3. It's highly recommended that you know V-Ray on some platform. Preference will go to V-Ray for SketchUp customers.
    4. If we request a scene file to debug, you must be able to send us scene files that you are working on with the WIP.
    5. You must be a reasonably advanced SketchUp user.
    6. You assume full responsibility if you use the WIP for production work.

Next there are of course known issues that we are working on. The issues that we have documented are as follows:

-Currently, you can't load visopts at all, new or old.
-We are discontinuing the use of the local license type. Activating a license causes a crash when you license a stand alone license for the first time, product works fine after that
-Sun settings haven't been added to the texSky form.
-Can't load old vismats or visopts.
-LayeredBRDF doesn't have Maps or Options rollouts anymore, since theydidn't work anyway, we thought we'd take them out to avoid confusion.
-No Material or Texture previews yet.
-Our dialogs are not parented to the SketchUp window.
-Rendering using physical sky w/o default light can cause a crash.
-Removing layers in a LayeredBRDF doesn't work properly
-Renaming materials that have textures applied to them can cause a crash.
-It's possible that SketchUp may disappear from the taskbar on windowssometimes...
-Render Regions button in the vfb isn't hooked up, so don't bother clicking it
-Render Output size is hard-coded to only use what you specify in your render options, we don't get it from the viewport right now
    -Animation not yet supported.
-UI is in various stages of cleanup. There are layout changes, UI addition, and renaming tasks being addressed.

So...without further delay. I'd like to ask those that are interested in getting involved with the WIP process to sign up here: http://software.asgvis.com/index.php...348&Itemid=417

I will add folks as quickly as I can.

    Best regards,
    Corey
