  • Old vs New??

I've just ugraded to the new Vray 30 day trial. I have noticed that the new version seems alot slower than its predecessor. Also the older version lets me continue to edit my model whilst rendering but the new version does not support this.

Are there actually any benefits to the new version other than automatically linking materials? I ask this because I may be inclined to stick with the older version.

However if there are much better improvements in the new version that make the longer render times tolerable then i will go for an upgrade. ???

    Re: Old vs New??

If you want to be able to use SU during the rendering, uncheck the batch render in the Global switches.

    Check out this post http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=5167.0

Here's the info from the read me document VfSU 1.5:

    Additional Features in SR 1.5
    -----------------------------
    + V-Ray Toon Material Added
+ Light properties expanded to include Affect Diffuse, Affect Specular and Affect Reflections
+ Defaults have been adjusted so that the Physical Camera and Physical Sun/Sky are not enabled
+ Additional Render Channels are now supported

    Bug Fixes in SR 1.5
    -------------------
+ Fixed issue related to typing values while using SU Tools
+ Fixed issue that cause some Ruby Scripts not to work
+ Non-English special characters are now processed correctly
+ Fixed several issues with spin controls
+ Fixed problem where checkmarks would not show up correctly in DR Server Dialog
+ Fixed problem where right-clicking on things in material editor was not properly selecting them which lead to incorrect adding/deleting of layer types and layer items
+ Fixed mapping channel other than number 1 cause missing texture, material, preview
+ Fixed Material Editor: renaming layer issue
+ Fixed saved IR, LC, Photon/Caustic, and IES files not being seen by DR spawner
+ Fixed a problem where reflection color would be ignored if a background map was turned on
+ Fixed issue where colorized textures would not be properly removed
+ Fixed problem with physical camera where white balance was not used when exposure is turned off
+ Fixed problem with physical camera when exposure is disabled and vignetting is on which caused strange brightening or darkening effects depending on focus distance of camera

    Known Issues in SR 1.5
    ----------------------
+ A number of users have run into a message saying "Parameter is Incorrect". It is believed this behavior has been fixed, but because we were unable to track down the exact source of the error, it may still be present.
+ There have been several issues related to using a color picker within the SketchUp material editor other than Color Wheel. If you are experiencing abnormal behavior related to materials, please set your color picker back to Color Wheel to see if that resolves the issue.
+ The following channels are not fully functional yet:
    * Wire Color - unknown why it is apparently not working
    * Real Color - unknown why it is apparently not working
    * Node ID - ASGVIS needs to implement means to set color to nodes ( Render Id channel may be of help )
    * Material ID - ASGVIS needs to implement means to set color to individual materials
    * Atmosphere - our product currently has no atmospherics so this channel will not be utilized
+ The Light Cache merging process is slowing down in some situations. Disabling Batch Render helps this process at normal speed
+ There have been several cases where scenes have been locked out of rendering. We have been unable to reliably reproduce this behavior.
+ Reordering Material layers can cause a crash
+ View Modifications done after setting the view to 2 Point perspective are not registered.
+ Curved, smooth Objects are sometimes rendered facetted. Explode and remake group or component to fix this.
