  • Shadows in Orthographic Projection??

    Hey all,
I'm doing an orthographic projection with Standard camera, and after 2 hours of trying, i can't seem to set up shadows at all. Ideally, i'd love to use the Sketchup sun to do it, but any attempts, like turning down GI/Sun parameters, changing to reindhard etc etc have been absolutely useless.

Is there a definitely proven way to use the Sketchup sun with Standard camera?

    PLEASES HELP!
    Neil

ok so that's the setup in sketchup. As you can see, i have the shadows set up in sketchup sun.

In terms of VRay settings, i'm using IM and DMC. Reindhard is on, GI and background are both set to sky, and no matter how much i turn down the multiplier, it STILL comes out like this:

I'd be quite happy to use that default light thingy just to get some sort of shadow. There's going to be a tonne of 3d perspective drawings that'll capture the shadows nicely, and i'll use physical camera for those, but i'd like to get the shadows in ortho too.

I can't really make out that second render picture it's so small.

I always use Physical Camera, never Standard Camera so I've no idea of where multipliers ought to be, but in terms of using the V-Ray default sky/sun (the angle and position of which is controlled by SU's shadow settings) the only things you really need to worry about are GI settings- the GI multiplier and Sun General Intensity Multiplier. Try reducing the Sun General Intensity Multiplier to very low level: 0.1 or even lower.

BTW, I wouldn't bother with DMC for a render like this, it's horrendously slow and make no perceptible difference for most exterior renders. IM and LC are a much faster combination and produce results at least as good (often better, with less noise) than DMC.

          Hey Neil,
You have to decrease sun's intensity significantly.
