  • What happened to my rendering?

Hi. I am new to VRAY (came over from Podium) and keep running into the same problems. I am hoping someone can help me with at least one of the following issues:
(I have attached both the rendered image and the original sketchup screenshot).

    a) the purple screens in the middle of the room ... they are supposed to be clear glass, anyone know why they rendered this way?
    b) lighting ... how do i improve the overall lighting of the space (make brighter)
    c) the angled window in the middle of the rendered image, why does that look frosted compared to the clear glass of the other windows?
    d) the windows to the right of the image -- there is a new and unexpected band across the top of the windows ... in the sketchup image you will see the building is supposed to continue upwards, this is now cut off b/c of the new band.

    thank you!!

The glass: apply the glass material to both sides of the face.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Thom - I checked and re-rendered to double-check ... still not clear. Thank you so much for your reply!

Anyone else want to take a shot?

Checking it looks like both sides of the glass are clear isn't enough. As Thomthom said you have to actually apply the glass material to both sides i.e. click with the "paint" tool on both sides separately. SU displays both sides as clear even if the material has only been applied to one side.

As Jackson said, visually it looks like both sides are transparent and glass material is applied on them. If you want to check it, simply select the surface and open the entity info window in SU. You will see 2 small thumbnails each representing one (front/back) side of the surface that you selected. Check that both of the thumbnails showing glass material.

If you have model with multiple surfaces which you want the material on the back face to be the same as the material on the front face, there's avery nice plugin for that. UV Toolkit

Btw what VfSU and SU version do you use?

Re: What happened to my rendering?

            Hi all

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I should have clarified ... my saying that I "checked" to make sure the material was on both sides meant that I re-applied the texture, checked the "entity info" box, and re rendered, and it was still coming up wrong. Somehow, someway, the purple is fixing itself. I am attaching the newest rendering, same window problems, but the overall light is better and the purple is leaving the image.

If you have any other suggestions please share!

hmm... Try to disable 'Reflect on backside' option.

Re: What happened to my rendering?

So ... I changed the angle of my rendering and it looks like the window is not the problem, the angle was. I had to stop my rendering early but I saved a copy of the image midway through, good enough to see what i'm talking about. Now i'm not sure why an angled window wouldn't render the same, but that's a whole new story.

Old questions still apply: Anyone know why those screens are rendering part purple, part gray (they are supposed to be gray-frosted glass)?

The new panel outside the window?

                  Thank you!

Re: What happened to my rendering?

In Vray material editor menu, under options.

I actually had this problem before. Did you imported a visopt for this material?
If so, Try to make a new one and set it manually. Then apply it to the faces.

There's a plugin to automate the material switch on the faces. Link to GlobalMaterialChange

I have this problem all the time. What fixes it without fail is to explode the component / group it is in. If its not in a group or component and the previous suggestions didnt work, I dont know then. Hope this will help.

ocloweyo, that background that you are using... is it a 360 degree panoramic (maybe HDR?). Can you share it?

Re: What happened to my rendering?

I'm working on a model that the glass is represented as two sheets of glass (thick?).

So I must apply V-ray glass to both sheets, in both faces? (totalizing 4 faces)
Don't want to work with refraction right now.

                            Double-sided enable in material.

I've found a window with 4 sheets of glass, if I keep with that, 4 faces with reflection layer will reflect more light than 1, right?

Also, I want to decrease the reflective amount, so I should change the Reflection colour (is this correct?). The current colour is totally black; "Reflection - white leads to complete reflection". Mine is black!

How could I get less reflective glasses?

                            Thank you
