  • Sketchup hangs indefinitely

    Hi all

I am a newbie. I am trying to render with default settings, and sketchup seems to hang for hours on end. Am I doing something wrong?

    Re: Sketchup hangs indefinitely

On large models with large number of materials, it takes longer for VfSU to prepare for the rendering process. This process called parsing.
There are ways to decrease the parsing time:
    1. Purging
    2. To apply materials directly on faces, i.e not directly on Component/Group. There's a great plugin that 'fixes' those C-G: [PLUGIN] Remove C-G Materials

Every time you use a texture or component, this data is stored in the SketchUp file. Based on this information, you can purge the SketchUp file, which also helps reduce file size:
Click Window > Model Info. The Model Info dialog box will open.
        Click Statistics > Purge Unused.

You might also have a corrupt material, this is easy to test. In the options menu under global switches place a check where it says "Override Materials" and set the little box to a Grey color. Then attempt to render from the angle that is giving you trouble. If it works like this then one or more of your materials is causing the trouble. Other causes include double faces, internal geometry, and interference from other software on the computer.
