  • help with lighting

    Hi,
I'm new here so I don't really know how to use vray properly,
I've tried the manual tutorial about the lighting and it said that rectangular light with the multiplier 4 will create a nice intensity, but when I changed it to 4, all I have is black rectangular shape. Any help please?
    here's the picture:

    1. What version do you what? (What does it say in the About section?)
    2. What light unit do you use? (The value doesn't mean much unless we know this)
    3. Are you using physical camera? (Lights need higher values with physical camera than without)
    4. What direction is that rectangle light? (By default the light emits from the front face - so if unless you have two-sided ticked in the light settings - you only get light in one direction. My guess is that it's this is the issue here. Front side and back side of geometry matters when rendering. Always ensure they are ordered the correct direction.)

nevermind, I know the problem is, I didn't know that I suppose to make the GI+background to be none and turn off the physical camera.
        Thanks anyways.

          RJ,

Disabling GI, background and physical camera is pointless- it's like saying the solution to a car engine not running properly is just to turn it off.

Thomthom's excellent advice above is what you should be following.

              Re: help with lighting

What I was trying to explain is that there is no need to disable physical camera. But you just have to use a different sets of values if you do. And the values will also depend on the type of light unit you use.

I personally use the physical camera all the time. But that is a personal preference. Just wanted to make clear that turning of the camera isn't a requirement.
