  • dubbel sided material

Hey I'm doing my first interior and I want to do my lamp cover with a double sided material so it shines a bit through.

How should I make this (I want some effect like curtains). I should just make a single face lamp cover and apply my texture to it.
Then I make a double sided material and apply my material to both sides and check the box below it?
    Is it this simple?

    Re: dubbel sided material

It's almost that simple, but after you've created the front and back face materials and loaded them in the slots of the 2 sided Material you apply the 2 sided Material to both sides of the lampshade. It's very counterintuitive; in fact once it's all set up the front and back face materials aren't actually applied to any geometry so you have to be careful not to purge the skp file or those materials will be deleted and your 2 sided Material will be "broken". For this reason I always add a couple of rectangles hidden away somewhere in the model with the front and back materials applied to them so the materials can't be purged by accident.

I do similar. I apply the original material to the edges of the object, and the VR2Sided to the faces. I purge all the time, it's on a hotkey and I activate it religiously.

        oke thnx for the tip
        oke 2 other things:

1st I can't get the uv-tool to work with the backside of the face. This is a cylinder.

        2nd Does backfaces work correctly?

What UV tool? A plugin? Or SU's texture tool?

your UV toolkit... on the font side of the cylinder it worked perfect but not on the backside

              Re: dubbel sided material

And what isn't working? Transferring UV mapping from the front to the back?

Can you post the component in question?

V-Ray does not render distorted textures correctly. You can only scale them.

But if it's a plain cylinder - it should not require distorted textures... Think we'll just have to see the model.

                      Re: dubbel sided material

Well, I had no problem transferring the Front Face UV mapping to the Back side...

I just selected all the faces and used UV Toolkit -> Frontface to Backface
                      How are you doing it?

(I'll look at the rendering part next.)

                        Re: dubbel sided material

BTw, you had 7 groups/components with material applied to them. That KILLS parsing time.

Yeah I selected all back faces and did apply cylindrical map. Thnx for that

It's is not my plugin that maps cylindrical. that's Whaat's UV Tools plugin.

You can't select "backface" - you can only select a face.
I suspect that Whaat's plugin only applies Uv mapping to the front side. Then you can afterwards use my plugin to transfer the mapping from the front to the back - using the method I mentioned earlier.

But the problem still remains: VfSU doesn't render distorted textures. So you have to map it yourself manually - making sure you don't distort the texture, only scale them.
