  • Remote Rendering

I am starting to get more and more out of state clients, which means I am traveling more and more. I am looking at a used laptop to put Sketchup and vRay on and take with me on the road, so my question is if there is a good way to set up a remote render farm?

The laptop only has two cores, which usually takes a while, plus laptops arent as powerful. I have a dual xeon desktop machine with 16 cores that I use at my home office, so it would be nice to be able to utilize that, but I dont want to lug that around with me. Any ideas would be great!

    thanks!

    Re: Remote Rendering

You could use something like dropbox, to sync up data between your laptop and desktop. Then use something like VNC or some other remote desktop software to access your desktop so you can kick off renders. Then you can have the output folder for your render, point to your dropbox folder, so as soon as the render is finished, it will be sent back to your laptop/iPhone/dropbox account for review.

Thanks DKendig! That is an awsome idea. I use dropbox now with my iPhone, I'll check out VNC, I think that will work great though!

      Thanks!
