  • DMC as a secondary engine

I have been using DMC as a secondary rendering engine because LC has been taking a very long time.

Has anyone else been using this approach? I have lowered a lot of settings for LC but can quite get a good test setting.

I also fear that i will be adjusting my lights according to the DMC as a secondary and when i change it to LC it will be different.

I want to be able to get some quick test with IR and LC.

    Any suggestions?

Re: DMC as a secondary engine

I never use DMC, way too slow IMO. I use IM as primary (never higher than Min -3 Max 0), LC as secondary (never higher than 1200 subdivs)- that combo can't be beaten for speed IMO (based on most of my renders at 1400 x 800px).

Have you disabled "Batch Render" in VfSU Options? In the previous version it caused LC to hang for 15 minutes before starting.

Batch rendering is for Distributed Rendering right?

If so, no. DRSpawner isn't working for me.

Besides isn't it missing from the new version. I couldn't find it just to check.

      +EDIT

I really must have something out of whack. My IM & LC renderings take a very very long time.

Re: DMC as a secondary engine

I've not been using DMC for secondary. But I have used it for primary at times when I've had a lot of small details or glossy materials.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

That is strange. I can never get a test render with my current model with IM & LC to be under almost an hour! :-\ even at like 400x300

Re: DMC as a secondary engine

You know i really think my model may be too complex. Its only 20mb but i am working off a laptop. No drspawner because it is broken at the moment.

I deleted everything i could and really cleaned it up best i could.

What do you guys think is making it un-renderable?

            Thanks!

Re: DMC as a secondary engine

You can submit a bug report if you'd like, along with the scene you're having troubles with. Just send an email off to vfswip@asgvis.com and attach the scene file as well as any textures that may be used in the scene. Then we can try rendering it here at the office and see if there's anything we see that might be causing the slowdown. I have noticed that if transparency is used in the scene anywhere, render times will slow down significantly. Maybe you have some transparency issues. Is there any vegetation in the scene maybe?
              Best regards,

no not really. Only a couple flowers. There may be some transparent materials i could get rid of and check from there. I will let you know what i find.
