  • Problem with Glass and Natural Light

Below is a scene that I rendered in Vray for SketchUp.

As you can see, I haven't yet added any glass material to the windows and glass doors. The next image shows what happens when I turn the glass layer on.

Notice that the glass blocks out most of the GI light coming in from the outside. This has never happened before. Usually, when I add the glass material, it has little to no effect on the GI lighting, but this time it's made a huge difference.

I've used the clear_glass.vismat that comes standard with Vray. I've always used this material for my glass windows and have never had a problem until now. Also, it looks like the glass is having some weird refraction issues because objects behind the glass don't come out correctly.

Can anyone figure out what's going on?

    Some other key points:

    - I'm using v1.05.46 (the the DR and transparency issues with the new version has made me stick with the older version until the patch comes out.)
    - I've used IM and LC as my primary and secondary engines, keeping all default settings.
    - The glass material has been applied to the correct side of the surface. I've checked.

If you need anymore info to help me out with this situation, I'll be glad to give it to you.

    Thanks!
    I am currently using V-Ray 1.49.01.

Im no expert in the matter but try enabling the AFFECT SHADOWS option in the Glass Material Refraction Layer Options, below the IOR setting

have you done that? hope it helps

Hello, be sure to apply the texture to both sides of the faces, might sound odd but it did the trick for me

Re: Problem with Glass and Natural Light

Actually, the biggest part of the problem was the "Affect Shadows" setting (thanks, MADMAX). I already had it checked, but when I unchecked it and then checked it again, the light went through just as it was supposed to do. It's wierd that I have to do that sometimes to get things to work.

I'm still having problems with the way objects look on the other side of the glass, though. I'll post another image to show what I mean.
