  • Stick on transparency glass

    Hello guys!
I´m new on this forum, and I´m using sketchup 7.
I must put some image on a transparency glass; I´ve create a rectangle box, than I`ve put as a material the image in format *.png (so tha background should be transparency), but when start my render I see the shape of the image (correct) but also the background!!!!.

I attached here below the image so you can understand better the problem.

        Re: Stick on transparency glass

In your material's diffuse layer in the V-Ray for SketchUp Material Editor. There should be a checkbox that says "use color texture as transparency" next to it.

As dkendig says, see what that material is called in sketchup then go to vray material editor and choose the correct one from your material list then the option is there at the top under diffuse layer. Just tick the box.

Guys thanks a lot for the reply.
I just can´t fine the options...maybe, because V-ray is install in Sketchup 6?
This is the window that I have:

              Re: Stick on transparency glass

you need to upgrade to the latest version of Vray, sorry I thought you were already using it! It works with Sketchup 6 as that is what I use.
If you dont want to upgrade there is a workaround but as I havent got the old version of Vray installed anymore I cant help you through the steps.
I think if you search for 'png transparency' on the forum you may find something.

                Re: Stick on transparency glass

Yeah, in the old version, you need to take whatever texture you're using that has an alpha channel you want to use for transparency, and load that texture in to an image editor such as Photoshop or Gimp. Then you'd save out the alpha channel as a separate image, and then use that as the transparency map. It's all standard procedure in pretty much any 3D app aside from SketchUp, which always seems to find a way to do everything just a little different. Most apps out there do support alpha transparency by default, but we didn't in our old product. As edonk said, you can upgrade to the latest version if you want, and that should give you the option that was mentioned earlier.
