  • Can't achieve Higher Output than 1600x800

    Hey all,

I am an avid Vray user who just switched to Windows 7. I now notice that I cannot output to a resultion higher than 1600x800. Even when I overrride the viewport, adjust aspect ratio, etc....I am trying to acheive an image 3500, and even if I enter it as such, it will only rencder an image of 1600x800. Can anyone help with this?

Which version of V-Ray are you using?

I also just got a new computer with Windows 7, but I was planning to load V-Ray 1.05.30 onto it since the newest version has so many bugs.

It might be a size issue as well. I had tried rendering an image at a resolution of 3000x5000 and it would always crash on me.

Are you using the Irradiance Map as your primary engine? If so, what are your Min/Max values? Whenever you want an image that big, it's a good idea to reduce the Min/Max values to somewhere like -4/-2 or -5/-3. The larger the image, the lower your Min/Max values should be.

    Hope this helps.
    I am currently using V-Ray 1.49.01.

Just out of curiosity, are you using the Academic version of VfSU?

I've heard some people point out that the Academic version limits the output size to 1200x1600. (Although I've also heard others say there is no difference between what the Academic and Commercial versions can do, there's only a difference on what we're allowed to do.)

I hope this size limitation isn't the case, though. I'm using the Commercial version at my office, but I'll be going back to school in August, at which point I was planning to purchase the Academic version. Given that most classroom pin-ups tend to be composed of several poster-sized images, it would be a bummer to only be able to render images not much larger than my monitor screen.

Can anyone confirm the output size limitation for the Academic version of VfSU?

Re: Can't achieve Higher Output than 1600x800

The older academic version 1.05.30 has a resolution cap the new one does not. This was the only difference between the commercial and academic version from the functionality standpoint and is no longer present. We have been talking about removing it for a while and I think that is where the confusion comes from.

The current academic version of V-Ray for Rhino still has this limit. The next version will also see its removal.

Sweet! Thanks for getting back to me so fast, alrami!

Although, I suppose this doesn't help aclark out as much. Have you had any luck fixing that output size issue, aclark?

Thanks for the heads up! Turns out my IT department used the wrong installer file after the windows 7 upgrade.
