  • How to add an image to a material

I think my brain has turned the past 6 months learning and implementing Revit Architecture for projects, but now I am back to vRay and Sketchup and for the life of me I cannot remember how to attach an image file to make it part of a texture.

I have a shower area I am designing in resin panels and need to do a glass like material but have a seaweed texture in it so it is still somewhat transparent. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: How to add an image to a material

Well, there's many ways to do it depending on what's best for you and which version of V-Ray for SketchUp you have:

    Via SketchUp
Open the Materials window in SketchUp and click the 'Create Material' icon (it looks like a brown cube with a plus sign in front of it.) On the new window that appears, click the folder icon next to 'Use Texture Image' and upload your image file. Your new material will be automatically added to the V-Ray Materials menu.

    Via V-Ray for SketchUp (v1.48.66)
This is the most current version of VfSU to date. Creating a texture image is a little different than in previous versions. Open the V-Ray Material Editor, right-click on 'Scene Materials' and choose your material type. Once you've chosen your material type, click on the Diffuse tab and click the little 'm' next to Color. Select 'TexBitmap' on the downscroll menu. Scroll down to the BitmapBuffer section and click the '...' button to upload your image.

Via V-Ray for SketchUp (v1.05.30 and earlier)
Open the V-Ray Material Editor, right-click on 'Scene Materials' and choose your material type. Once you've chosen your material type, click on the Diffuse tab and click the little 'm' next to Color. Select 'Bitmap' on the downscroll menu. In the Bitmap section, click the little 'm' to upload your image file.
    I am currently using V-Ray 1.49.01.
    SketchUp 8.0.11752
    Windows 7 Professional-64 bit
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 K655 @ 3.20GHz

Thanks Marcus, It was one of those simple things where I went into the menu and couldnt even remember how to use vray! Might of been because I upgraded to the newest version that just came out a few weeks ago and the menus are a little bit different. I now cannot get my lighting to work, one question to the next.

      Thanks for your help!
